The Manchester Police Department’s SWAT Team was established in 1975 in order to address those particular incidents which exceed the capabilities of the Patrol and Investigative Divisions. The specific circumstances that would necessitate the services of the SWAT Team primarily consist of high risk incidents, which can take several forms ranging from a barricaded subjects or hostage situations to the execution of high risk narcotics search warrants.

Assignment to the SWAT Team is an ancillary duty in addition to the officer’s specific assignment within the police department.  Under this design, each shift will have a number of SWAT officers assigned who will have the ability to immediately deploy as needed in addition to a 24hr on call status.

  The Manchester Tactical Officer's Association goal is to enhance public safety and service to the community by enhancing police training opportunities and equipment acquisition beyond budgetary means.    

  The Manchester Tactical Officers Association is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) entity comprised of Manchester, New Hampshire Police/ SWAT Officers dedicated to enhancing tactical training opportunities and equipment capabilities in service to the community and residents of New Hampshire.

Through donations, the Manchester Tactical Officers Association hopes to overcome budgetary limitations and Department of Homeland Security restrictions in an effort to pursue advanced training opportunities historically not available. 

The ultimate goal of this entity is to increase the frequency of professional training as well as identify and procure advanced equipment based on ever changing demands placed on tactical officers. Given the fact technology and operational needs are constantly evolving, the ability to have a level of financial autonomy is critical
